If you use compiz it is easy to set the glmatrix screensaver as your desktop background.



Open Settings > Preferences > Advanced Desktop Effects Settings (ccsm from terminal)



In Window Managemet enable Window Rules. Add name=glmatrix to all shown fields and !name=glmatrix in Above field



Next open Settings > Preferences > Sessions


Add glmatrix to startup programs

Done. Close and logout. Next time you boot you will have a nice Matrix background
